On Friday 24th February, the carnival celebration took place in our school : almost all the children arrived in the morning with various costumes : a lot of policemen, princesses, cowboys, Indians, vampires or mommies…
In the beginning of the day, pupils had normal lessons, or almost : during an English class some children discovered an English game with hanged apples, which they have to eat without using their hands. It’s harder than you can imagine. They (we) had a lot of fun !
At 11 am, the party started with music in the schoolyard and traditional dances. It was a good occasion for me to improve my Greek dancing skill, with the help of the pupils and the teachers. For the lunch time, every class was provided in food for everyone.
Around 12 o’clock, while children were throwing serpentines, the headmaster of the school flew a kite in the air, with the colors of the Greek flag. Flying kites is a greek tradition for the “Clean Monday”, the first day of Lent.
