Weekend on the boat

As the weather was very good last weekend, we had the chance to spend a lot of time on our boat.

We started on Thursday afternoon to clean the boat. As we haven’t done this in a while, it was really necessary. By doing this, we also had the chance to refresh our knowledge about the position of everything we could possibly need on the boat. We also had a lot of fun cleaning and enjoyed seeing the clean boat afterwards.

On Friday, we were able to do a short sailing trip. There, we learned how to use the compass and the trains at the side of the boats. Those are needed to adapt the sail according to each wind condition. After coming back and parking the boat, we did not go back to our hosting place as usual but stayed at the boat to spend the night there. We played some cards and then got the best greek traditional fast food as dinner – Pita.

We all really enjoyed to spend the night on our boat and woke up well rested on Saturday morning. We closed the boat and headed back to our hosting place. After cleaning and preparing lunch, we left once again for a trip with the sailing boat.

This time, our destination was Chios small neighbour island Inousses. Our goal was to get there as fast as possible, so we used the autopilot and the motor as well as our sails. We had the chance to see how the GPS-system works and to navigate by using it. Parking at the port of Inousses, we could test out how to adapt the boat for another port. Arrived, we agreed to spend two hours on the island.

As the weather was perfect, we decided to go to the beach. There, we enjoyed our pasta salad, the water and of course the sun. Back on the boat, we could train to use the compass, the trains, doing turns and stirring.

We really appreciated that we had the chance to spend so much time on the sailing boat and learnt more about this fascinating sport. We hope the weather conditions stay like this a little longer so we will have more opportunities to improve our skills.
