At the beginning of September we had the chance to participate in the On-Arrival-Training for EVS volunteers who recently started their project in Greece.
We took the ferry from Chios Island to Athens and two bus rides later we arrived in Lamia, a nice city in the centre of Greece. The training was hosted by the National Agency of Greece in NISI, a multi-purpose venue in Fthiotida. There we met 24 other volunteers from all over Europe.
The focus of the training was to inform us volunteers about our rights and duties, the youth-pass, to give us the chance to reflect and to think about our goals. We also did a lot of group-building activities and tried to save problems that already came up.
The different workshops included presentations, discussions, working groups, debates, role plays, reflection techniques, self assessment techniques, experiential learning, energizers, peer education, open space technology and simulation exercises.
Additionally, we did a beach clean up and the hosts introduced their NGO, wheeling2help.
On our way back, we had the chance to spend some time in Athens and visit the Acropolis.
We came back with a lot of motivation, more knowledge and new friends.
