Carnival time in Greece officially ends on “Clean Monday”, so the school and the kindergarten of Nenita celebrated this cheerful time of the year on the Friday before. How did they do it? With a huge party and loads of food of course. In the primary school at 9.30am everyone gathered in the hall where each class had prepared a table full of chips, sandwiches, traditional food, pizza and soft drinks. The idea was that everybody could take anything from any table but of course the younger students were more timid about that than the older ones. But accompanied by an “adult safeguard” (aka us volunteers) they were much more courageous. We used this opportunity to try all the different kinds of traditional food and it was simply delicious. There was also music and all the school danced and laughed together.
