The 24th of March the Primary Schools of Vrontados celebrated the independence from Turkey. The actual national holiday is on 25th of March, but then the schools are closed, so they celebrated it the day before.
In the 3rd Primary School of Vrontados the children from the 6th class had prepared for weeks a play, with traditional songs, dances and the history of this special day. They showed their acting skills to the whole school and their parents and we have to say, they performed pretty well! We enjoyed a lot to be able to see their enthusiastic play and helped a little bit with the preparations. As well we took photos and videos of the very nice play. After the piece all the older classes of the school walked to the sailing monument of Vrontados and honored this one, by donating flower pieces and singing together with all the other schools from Vrontados the Greek National Anthem. We accompanied them the whole way and were delighted about being part of this festive day.
In the 2nd Primary School of Vrontados we celebrated this special day in the afternoon. The children from the 6th class have prepared the performance for this occasion. In the beginning we could watch the traditional dances and listen to the history of this national holiday. The children were dancing in traditional costumes and it was very interesting for us to see this and compare to our countries from this period. In the end we watched a short play about events from this day.
We are very happy, that we could spend this time together with the children and thanks to that performance we had an opportunity to get to know better the Greek culture and history.
