The 14th of June was the last school day, and so a big part of our project ended for this year. It was an honor for us volunteers to be a part of the school the whole year, learn about the way Greek primary schools and kindergartens work, become a member of the team and of course work with the children. We had an amazing time and are very sad it ended now, but are already looking forward to visit in the future.
The first primary school of Vrontados had a big celebration on the evening of the 13th of June, where the children of 6th grade presented a play they studied the weeks before. Afterwards, the teachers said goodbye to them and they also got little presents. The atmosphere was really nice, as the play took place outside at the schools theatre. The goodbye was also very emotional, and the evening ended with a little party, where the kids enjoyed pizza and drinks the school provided and had the chance to dance one last time with all the teachers together.
The first kindergarten of Vrontados had a final theatre from the children at the evening of 12th of June. The play was about all the Greek islands and their traditional dances. Our volunteer helped to prepare the background of the play. On the 13th of June, all the children with their parents and teachers had a picnic at Daskalopetra where the children could play and got food.
The second primary school of Vrontados had their final celebration in the morning of the 13th of June. The first graders presented a play about fruits and vegetables, where an onion and lemon married in the end, for which our volunteers prepared decoration and costumes in advance. Later on, also the 6th graders read out stories about their whole primary school time, as it was their ending celebration. They also sang traditional songs and danced. In the end of the celebration, everybody got ice cream.
In the third primary school of Vrontados, the first graders presented a play on the 14th of June. Afterwards, the 6th graders presented a performance including matching shirts and balloons, in order to celebrate their goodbye.
The third kindergarten of Vrontados already presented their play on Sunday, 9th of June. Our volunteers prepared the background and parts of the costumes and helped during the rehearsals. After the play, which was held at Pekev, the celebration ended with the oldest children getting an honor and a little party. On Friday, 14th of June, all the children came one last time to school in order to pick up their final reports and say goodbye in every school.
