On Wednesday the 12th of June the 3rd primary school of Vrontados made a day trip to Volissos, the largest village in the northwest of the island. Surprising for us was that not only students and teachers came along, but also parents, siblings and grandparents joined the trip.
With three busses we set of from Daskalopetra in the direction of Volissos in the morning. Once we were up the mountain and had almost reached our final destination we stopped at a vineyard, where the kids got provided with small snacks and the teachers had the opportunity to try some of the wines. Before we made our way to Volissos, the 5th and 6th graders by foot and the smaller ones by bus, we all watched a short documentation about the production of wine.
In Volissos the 1st and 2nd graders went to a small museum, where they were shown tools for household and farm work, used before electricity was discovered.
Afterwards the children were free to roam around the village and mostly spent their time at the playground, where the volunteers played with them, treated small injuries and had the role of a supervisor.
Before we made our way back home the teachers together with the volunteers had lunch at a traditional tavern.
