While the sailing boat is in the water from spring to autumn, whenever we don’t use it it’s parked in the Chios Marina. This is where we also check if everything is alright, before we go for bigger excursions.
This time for example there was a problem with our toilet, which made us refine our plumbering skills. After a couple of hours we found the problem and we were good to go again.
The marina is also a place to make new friends. One day, we saw a German flag on one of the boats, so we, German-speaking volunteers, decided to say hello. To our surprise the greeting quickly turned into a real conversation, and at the end of it, we had a business card with phone number and adress and an invitation to Germany. You never know how encounters at the marina might play out.
To test the volunteers for their ability to live together in a confined space and to sleep on a boat, we also spent a full day (including a night) on the boat. Some of us also got up early to see the magnificent sunrise over Turkey. It was really fun and we’re looking forward to what other sailing experiences we might be offered.
