On the 11th of March, the 2nd school of Vrontados decided to spend the day at the playground of Daskalopetra beach. The weather was perfect for an excursion and invited all children to be active – thus for instance, they were climbing on a climbing scaffold, crafting flower rings or played soccer.
We, as volunteers, took care of the pupils, participated in their games and enjoyed the first sun of spring this year and our work got even more pleasant through the amazing location next to the Aegean Sea and with view on the mainland of Turkey.
Excursions are always a good chance to get closer relations to the children, to improve our language skills and to get to know the student’s talents, interests and creativity.
The chosen place offered different playing surfaces: Many of the younger pupils decided to romp around on the close meadow which was situated on a small hill. The more energetic ones preferred a soccer match and performed like their stars of “Olympiakos”. Also the small gymnasts among them got their chance to follow up their penchant on the climbing frame. Of course, we prevent them from falling down.
No matter for which activity they were enthusiastic about – children of all age groups were always playing together and for us it was really nice to see, how they supported each other, treated each other fair and showed us their definition of teamwork. Therefore, a feeling of unity and togetherness was clearly noticeable.
