After spending hours of hard work on the boat, taking the old stickers off, refreshing the paint of the hull and washing the sails, it was finally ready to be put in the sea again. We were all looking forward on sailing after the extended time it spent in the shipyard due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For our first trip of the summer 2020, we sailed to Oinousses, a small island North-East of Chios. We left in the morning with the south wind, allowing us to raise the sail. During the trip we were able to take turns steering the boat and gain some sailing experience.
Once we arrived in the city, we took the time to walk around and admire the architecture of the buildings and the amazing view. We walk by the beautiful churches of the island but they were still closed due to the Coronavirus. On this hot summer day, we went for a swim in the sea to refresh ourselves. Then we spent the rest of our time on the terrace of one of the seaside café’s. We enjoyed our coffee while playing backgammon and talking.
Unfortunately, once it was time to leave, the wind was still blowing from the South and not coming from the North like the weather forecast predicted. To avoid sailing in the night, we decided to not raise the sails and only use the boat’s motor to go back to the marina.
At the end of the day, we were very tired and a little bit sun burnt but very happy and looking forward on our next trip to discover the surroundings of Chios!
