On Friday the 23rd of March we had a very nice theatre around the topic of the Turkish people who wanted to occupy Chios Island. The 6th class prepared together with the volunteers and the teacher a play, representing the resistance.
It was in 1821 on the 25th of March. Greece had been under the control of the Ottoman Empire since around 200 years. Between freedom and suppression they fought a lot for their freedom and finally in 1827 they became independent. The Motto of this revolution was “freedom or death”, so you can imagine quite well how important it was for the Greek people to get their free country which they were looking for since a long time.
However, the actors had the traditional cloths which they also had in the earlier times. You could see three men working for the Turkish people collecting Mastic and the women who were also not free being afraid of the Turkish. Sometimes during the play you could see the Greek people being on a ship without their flag on the top of the boat. Also one important part played the person personifying spring and hope while walking on stage full of pride and happiness. She has always been in between showing to the people that the time will come and that they are not less as they have always been thinking. They have on nation behind them. In the end you can see that they were fighting against the Turkish and finally the ship with the Greek flag was on the sea again.
After the theatre some children also went to the monument of the sailor close to the sea in order to lie down a wreath and sing together with the 2nd primary school, the Gymnasio and one more school the national anthem.
