On the 26th October the school started a little bit different to what we and the children are used to. The reason was simple: It was the Name Day of Saint Demetrius or Agios Dimitrios. Therefore the whole school went to the church Agios Markos -which is the reason for the name of our school and the neighborhood- to celebrate. For us TES volunteer this was a very interesting experience. We had the opportunity to see the children getting blessed and to see the icon of Dimitrios. We also participated in the religious customs and ate the traditional bread and Loukoumades. In and around the church as well as the walk back to the school we took care of the children and what they do. After the arrival there the normal school day continued and we helped the teachers in their lessons. Of course we enjoyed the candies teachers and children with the name Dimitrios had brought to school this day to celebrate their with everybody!
