On 1st of April the Second Primary School of Vrontados visited Anavatos which is an abandoned village. It is located on the top of a cliff, which has an impressive background history: in the beginning the population of the island went there for hiding when the pirates attacked the island but some years ago it was completely abandoned.
It is the perfect village for hiding because of various reasons. Firstly, it has only one entrance. Secondly, all houses look like they are part of the rock because they are made with natural stone so if you are not directlly in front of the village you can’t see it. Because it is located so high and everything is very open you can see the whole surrounding like the forest and the sea. But on the other hand, if you are afraid of heights you should avoid it, but keep in mind that you will miss incredible views and a beautiful natural environment
Also near Anavatos, we can find Avgonyma which is the same area, with similar buildings and with a lot of life in summer and you can enjoy the views with a greek coffee. Both of them are beautiful and worth visiting, but in Anavatos the historical background is in the atmosphere. Of course, the perfect plan is to visit both of them because they are very close to each other and the journey to reach them is incredibly beautiful.
The children discovered the villages with much interest because they were able to imagine how the life there was.
