The third of December it is the International Day of People with Disabilities and this day is promoted by the United Nations since 1992. This day was created with the aim of the promotion and understanding of disability issues and mobilize more support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. Of course it is also important for increase the awareness of the people and favour the integration of persons with disabilities in every possible aspect in life.
Every year this day has a topic and in 2014 the topic has been: Sustainable development: The promise of technology.
In Chios Island and the 2nd School of Vrontados we also support this event, the children of the fourth class, together with other primary schools and high schools from the island and the special needs primary and high school went to the BAOL team fields.
There we had a really great time all together, the children played different games, dance and listen to live music from the students of the music high school.
There were many interesting and funny games like blind handball, volleyball only with hands, and also races of pairs who helped each other. The children met some students from the special needs primary school and have much fun playing, dancing and eating together.
Our students learn that disability doesn’t mean inability and that we all can be friends, practice sports and have fun.
For us volunteers was very nice to get to know other children from the island and see how our students raise their awareness and understanding about topics like disability.
