As we are approaching the middle of our project, we had the opportunity to go to the mid-term seminar from 1st until 5th December. The objectives of the seminar were of course to reflect and discuss about the different projects, but also to think about the future and possible ways to continue contributing to our communities.
The seminar was held in Livadaki forest village, central Greece. For us volunteers from Chios Island it is a long journey, as we had to go by ferry, train and bus. Finally arrived, we met 12 other volunteers from eleven different countries all over Europe who work in seven different EVS projects in Greece. We already knew some volunteers from the On Arrival Training, which was very nice and we were happy to see them again.
The first day we spent with introducing ourselves and also our projects and tasks. We could do this by showing videos, making posters or just talking about it. Through that, we learned about the other projects and how different organisations realise them.
On the second day, we had time to talk and reflect about ourselves and the time we spent so far. It was also the time to ask our two competent trainers for help if needed. As the whole seminar was held through non formal education, it was not only the trainers talking but mostly us volunteers presenting.
The third day was dedicated to our future plans and the realisation of ‘our project’. We learned about possibilities to continue learning after our EVS and spent time to think about which project we want to realise during our EVS for our local community together with other volunteers who had similar ideas.
The seminar was for us sailors like the stars in thenight sky. It gave us directions in the twilight of our adventure.
