On Wednesday the 7th of November, we had a free day as the schools had elections. We used this opportunity to go to our sailing boat.
As winter is coming and the weather is not that good anymore, the decision was made to get the boat out of the water. Therefore, we first drove from the Marina in Vrontados to the shipyard, which is located south of Lagada. This shipyard is very special as it does not have a crane but a modified tractor to pull the ships out of the water.
We started by parking the boat so that the back was facing the land. After that, the tractor pushed a special kind of trailer under the boat and slowly started to pull it out. Once arrived at the parking position, the workers of the shipyard installed the supportive pillars. We then cleaned the boat with water. The next steps will be to put down the sails and wash them, take everything out of the boat that is not needed during the winter and to perfectly clean the boat from inside and outside.
We already look forward to also learn about this important part of maintaining a boat and to prepare it for the next season.
