Last sunday, we combined exploring Chios Island and getting water by making an excursion to a spring in the north of the island.
On our way, we passed beautiful beaches like for example Monastery Beach or Glaroi Beach as well as the shipyard and multiple villages. We made a short stop in one of the biggest villages of the Island, Kardamila. Kardamila is located in the north-east of Chios. Using the example of Kardamila, we learned and could see that nowadays there are mostly two parts of the villages – the new part close to the sea and the old part further in the mountains, as the inhabitants hid from pirates in the past.
Our final destination was Nagos, a small village at the seaside. There we collected water and went for a short walk.
As the north of the island has more broad-leafed trees, it already looked a lot more like autumn than in our hosting place, Vrontados. We loved all the colours and were surprised how quiet it was in Nagos, as it is mostly uninhabited during the winter. We didn’t even hear a dog barking or cats fighting.
It was a great trip and we loved to see and learn more about Chios Island.
