At the local primary school the children have the opportunity to attend an afternoon school, where with the help of some teachers, they do their homework, have their lunch together with the other students that stay for the afternoon and after depending on the weather have the chance for doing more gymnastics, singing, creating crafts, playing games and so on.
We have the chance to assist the teachers of the afternoon school in those subjects. For instance, we play different sports or educational games with them, this way learning some typical Greek games from the children, who try to explain them in Greek and the few English words they know. And we of course try to explain some games we know from home or the ones that we drew for the children in their new school building’s yard to them.
It is obviously a great opportunity to improve your knowledge of the Greek language as well as the culture, as you discover for example the similarities in the games that they play here and that we used to play in our home countries. Also from the educational aspect you have the chance to learn how to solve little conflicts, how to entertain and at the same time educate children.
