We took advantage of a warm sunny October day to go on a trip to the south of the island.
We started of the day by taking taxis to Pyrgi. Also known as the painted village because of the traditional decorations on the houses. These geometrical shapes are called « Xistà ». The locals first apply a layer of ciment of the facade of the houses and directly after, a layer of white paint. And before it dries they scratch out the formes with the help of forks, giving the village a unique and charming atmosphere. We took the time to walk through the streets, admiring the architecture and meeting locals that were sorting out mastiha outside their front door. After taking a coffee in the main plaza, we set off to our next destination, Mavra Volia, the black beach.
We walked for about 1h30 to arriving at the beach. The water is very clear and the black pebbles warmed up by the sun are the perfect relaxing spot after a long walk
