On the 27th of October the children, the teachers as well as the EVS volunteers celebrated the Oxi Day together in the kindergarten. Of course all of them will be participated in the public celebration on the 28th of October too, but because of this is a Saturday, they made their small celebration on the Friday before.
Already two weeks earlier they started to prepare this special day. The teachers told the children about the occurrences on the 28th of October 1940 during the Second World War, when the Greek president Ioannis Metaxas rejected the Italian ultimatum with the short word “Oxi”-“No”. The kids looked photos from this time and heard stories about it. Also they did handicrafts with the word “Oxi”. A very important part of the preparation were to learn different songs and poems.
When the children arrived in their smart clothes at the kindergarten on the 27th of October all of them were very exited. After they decorated the room with a Greek flag they started the celebration. Together the children and teachers sang the songs with powerful and enthusiastic voices. Also every child presented a poem and got a lot of applause.
