Each volunteer who works in our organization for half a year or more has two seminars in the program: the on-arrival seminar in the beginning of his or her EVS work and the mid-term seminar in the middle of the stay. The seminars are organized by the Greek National Agency in order to inform the volunteers about important subjects concerning EVS, e.g. the health insurance and the final report (Youthpass), which every volunteer has to write at the end of his or her stay. But besides these more formal things, it offers a great possibility to get to now more youngsters who work also here in Greece, to create a network of contacts and to exchange the experiences, each person made in her or his EVS time.
The seminars take place in Athens, so among the friendships that we make with the people from other organizations and the entertainment that the big city offers, we have the possibility to visit important and well known places of the capital of Greece.
Athens is one of the world’s oldest cities, as its recorded history spans around 3,400 years. The heritage of the classical era is still evident in the city, represented by a number of ancient monuments and works of art, the most famous of all being the Parthenon, widely considered a key landmark of early Western civilization. The city also retains a vast variety of Roman and Byzantine monuments, as well as a smaller number of remaining Ottoman monuments projecting the city’s long history across the centuries.
Athens is a fascinating city full of life, where the modernity meets the antiquity, and after every visit we come back to our island with a lot of good memories.
