The 22nd of July is dedicated to Aghia Markella – one of the most important local saints, who was born in Volissos, in the north-west side of the island. Many pilgrims come here every year from all over the island, together with Chians who live in other parts of Greece and abroad. It is one of the biggest celebrations in Chios.
Our team had the opportunity to take part in the celebration. Walking more than 30 km in the mountainous, beautiful landscape, was really the miraculous experience… On the way we passed by the village Volissos, stayed there for a night and came back with a lot of amazing pictures and memories.
